I Want a Zebra Too!

Zebras continue to be a very hot trend in 2014 with no signs of slowing down. Faux zebra rugs, pillows, fabric, wallpaper, and art all fit perfectly with Chinoiserie Chic, Hollywood Regency, and Palm Beach Chic style.

But have you noticed how zebra figurines are popping up everywhere? I want one too and have been scouring Etsy, eBay, and my thrift stores and consignment shops with no luck so far. I would love a vintage one especially. I'm surprised that HomeGoods and Z Gallerie haven't picked up on this trend yet. BTW, I got several reports that HomeGoods stores have had a run on bar carts since my post over the weekend on my bar cart find and several followers have emailed me photos of their finds.

Well, my hunt continues for a zebra to bring home. I think this is a real zebra in interior designer Ryan Korban's home. One word - repulsive. This is the last time he will appear on my blog. Here is an excerpt from an interview with him.

ID: What do you like to be surrounded by in your own home?

RK: [Laughs.] A lot of dead animals and fur, some crystals. I love taxidermy, so I have my collection of cranes and peacocks. I like to be surrounded by textural and exotic things, things that feel really special and are borderline fantasy.

I'm sorry, but that is really odd.

So wrong!

Sunday Inspiration - Zebras

Danika's Zebras at Spoonflower

Scalamandre's Zebras
Yes, we all love Scalamandre's Zebras wallpaper and fabric but some of us have mortgages and college tuitions, right? Enter the uber-talented Danika of O'verlays and Gorgeous Shiny Things. You can get her take on frollicking zebras starting at $17.50 a yard for fabric and $60 a roll for wallpaper at her Spoonflower store here. (Scalamandre runs about $150 a yard or roll). Lots more great Chinoiserie designs too.

This week we will be wrapping up our Top Ten Chinoiserie Trends for 2014 series.

Baby Chinoiserie Chic

One can never be too old or too young for Chinoiserie! Serena & Lily has darling zebra crib sheets and even a sleeper that you can mix and match with their nursery bedding. Find it all here. And speaking of zebras and Chinoiserie nurseries, you have to see one of the cutest Chinoiserie nurseries of all time created by the very talented Daniela at Aesthetic Oiseau for her baby girl. It has curtains in the iconic Brunschwig & Fils Le Lac, a pagoda, a ginger jar, fretwork, zebras, faux bamboo, a pagoda chandelier - the list goes on and on.

Zebras - Fourth of July Tablescape and My New Houzz Ideabook

This is one of my favorite tablescapes ever, from the January/February 2013 Lonny. With its red, white, and blue color scheme, I think it would be great for a non-traditionally traditional Fourth of July table. The focal point is the tablecloth in Brunschwig & Fils Gillian S Zebras. This fabric features blue and white Chinese porcelain, flowers, and zebra figurines on a red background. Red, white, and blue and stripes!

Speaking of zebras, my new Houzz Ideabook for July is on zebra wallpaper. Check it out here. It is filled with inspiration boards of mine with Scalamandre Zebras as well as other ideas for zebra walls.

Styling

Probably the most common request I receive from interior design clients is styling bookcases and coffee tables. Accordingly, I am always on the lookout for chic, unique, and whimsical pieces. I happened upon this darling black and gold Kate Spade lion in HomeGoods over the weekend and he is very happy on my own coffee table. Also in the KS collection are a giraffe, a zebra, and an elephant. I like them all! You can find them on the Kate Spade website and discounted on various online stores like here.

I have Pinterest boards on -

for even more ideas.
