It's All In The Details - Finials & Inspiration Board

Interior design is all about the little but important details that really make a room special. Hillary Thomas has a line of exquisite lamp finials that are the perfect finishing touch to that beautiful lamp you have found, elevating it from elegant to extraordinary. Below are some examples of her finials on lamps as well as some of my favorites from her collection. You can see them all here.

Blue Coral & Chinoiserie

I bought a beautiful pair of antique coral engravings in a gorgeous turquoise blue a while back and finally decided to frame them for my "pagoda bedroom." I picked them up from the framers yesterday and I think they add a great summery vibe to this space. Here also are more lovely examples of combining blue and coral, a perfect combination with Chinoiserie.

Hot Pink & Chinoiserie

My daughter Kate sent me a picture of this fabulous hot pink dining room with its pair of flamingos and it reminded me of how much I love combining Chinoiserie and hot pink. Maybe you'll find inspiration here on adding this great color to your home. (And no, the flamingos are not real!)

Inspiration Board - Summer Look for Less

I love the console vignette below that I posted on here and I have recreated it in easy to find and budget friendly pieces. This is a great look for an entryway, living room or dining room with its mix of Chinoiserie, lucite, and organic elements - perfect for a beach house or any home for the summer. It all adds up to about $1,000.

My look for less -
Have your paint store color match Farrow and Ball Saxon Green
The console table is CB2's Peekaboo Clear Console Table for $379
The Beachcomber Baskets are from Pottery Barn for $129 each
The Classic Jute Rug is from Charlotte & Ivy for $138
The Double Happiness Vases are from The Pink Pagoda for $116 each
Add a pair of little clear glasses of your own with fresh flowers

Giant Pineapples & My New Ideabook

I have gone a little pineapple crazy lately and I think my favorite of all is this pineapple wallpaper by Studio Printworks. It is available in lots of wonderful colorways and in two different scales depending on how bold you wish to go. Here is the larger and the smaller. It also comes in amazing fabric. I especially love the photo above combining the wallpaper with lots of blue and white Chinese porcelain and faux bamboo in a very chic and fun Coastal/Chinoiserie/Hollywood Regency vibe.

Please check out my new Houzz Ideabook on bringing Chinoiserie outdoors for lots of great picks on bringing Chinoiserie style to your porch, patio, and yard.

Saturday Inspiration

On Thursday I posted on the lounge and powder room that Shelley Johnstone Paschke created for the 2013 Lake Forest Showhouse.  This is the entryway she designed for the 2011 Lake Forest Showhouse. The wallpaper is a favorite of mine, Farrow and Ball's Lotus. The bottom two pictures show this wallpaper used in two other rooms I have posted on. Note how in all three rooms this wallpaper is combined with Chinese porcelain.
