Another Easy Chinoiserie DIY

Tom Scheerer
In the room above from House Beautiful, Tom Scheerer frames family photos in red bamboo frames. Below, Tobi Fairley pairs classical art in red frames with Chinese lanterns and lamps and a Greek key bordered rug. I love this look of Chinese red picture frames. My go to cheap frame - Ikea's Ribba comes in high gloss red starting at $1.99. The 11 3/4" by 15 3/4" is $9.99 and is matted for 8" by 10" photos and art - a great size for lots of projects. A gallery wall of prints from The Pink Pagoda framed in these red Ribba frames would be so wonderful! The Pink Pagoda is having a 20% off sale at her prints store right now.

Sunday Inspiration - A Classic Entryway

Alessandra Branca
Last Saturday I posted on the wonderful red, white and blue foyer by Tobi Fairley shown below with its combination of classical and Chinoiserie elements. Today we look at another lovely example by Alessandra Branca of a classic approach with a dramatic black Greek key skirted table, marble lamps, broken pediment mirror, dentil molding, and an oversized lantern. What keeps this modern and fresh are the pair of slipper chairs with gilded legs and fun swirly fabric - an unexpected choice.

Both foyers share the use of a skirted table, Greek key, and the classic symmetry of a pair of lamps and a pair of chairs. I think both are fabulous. BTW, a skirted rectangular table can be a dramatic and budget friendly choice for your entryway. Here is another great example by Palmer Weiss below with a fretwork trimmed linen skirted table.

One day this coming week, we will look at more modern versions of the traditional skirted table - a look that some abhor, but I adore.

Saturday Inspiration - Grecian and Chinoiserie Entryway

Tobi Fairley
This space had me at hello. I love the mix of classic Greek, modern, and a touch of Chinoiserie -

The striped rug with Greek key border
Red frames on the classic art
The red pagoda lantern sconce
The blue skirted and banded table
Baby blue lamps - Christopher Spitzmiller, I assume
Klismos chairs painted in bright blue and trimmed in Greek key
The blue ceiling

I would love to borrow some of these ideas for my own home - perhaps for the entryway or a hallway.

A Girly Chinoiserie Christmas Tree

Tobi Fairley
I love this whimsical and colorful Christmas tree from Tobi Fairley. My daughter is planning a Christmas tree this year in these colors with Chinoiserie touches and I sent her this photo for inspiration. Monkeys and ornaments in pink, orange, green, and turquoise are a wonderful combination. Here are my holiday decorating posts to date. I used to love the December issues of the shelter magazines for Christmas decorating ideas, but most have completely stopped. Don't worry, we are in full holiday decorating throttle here.
