A Chinoiserie Christmas - More Southern Accents

My favorite part is the black and gold Chinoiserie chest topped with the blue and white Chinese porcelain planter filled with apples and boxwoods. I also love the yellow walls. Yellow is a perfect choice for your dining room if it will include any black and gold Chinoiserie pieces or blue and white Chinese porcelain.

A Chinoiserie Christmas - Southern Accents - A Blue and White Christmas

Pink and Blue Chinoiserie

Have you noticed that pink walls in living rooms are a growing trend? I love it. This living room with its very traditional furnishings has been given a much more modern, fresh, and young look with that gorgeous pink. Pink is also a stunning combination with blue and white Chinese porcelain.

A Chinoiserie Christmas - Tory Burch's Dining Room

Tory Burch's red lacquered dining room is certainly a perfect setting for the holidays. I much prefer the chairs slipcovered above in purple velvet banded in red - much more fun than the striped upholstery. Purple and red are a great combination - very underutilized.

My Virtual Living Room at Design du Monde

The vintage Fornasetti ottoman I used as a cocktail table
DC area artist Kerry Steele (I have two of her pieces) and blogger (Design du Monde) had the very clever idea of asking some local interior design bloggers to each create a room for a Virtual Show House shown below. I was asked to design the living room. Please go check it out here. It reflects my interior design aesthetic and some of the operating principles I tend to use in doing a room -

A mix of high end and accessible pieces
A dramatic piece of art - generally an abstract
A pop of red
A mix of new, vintage, and antique
Traditional, but with a fun and whimsical edge
Black to ground the pastels I am drawn to
An investment piece to really up the ante of the room
A neutral, classic couch

Chinoiserie Chic in Online House Beautiful

Bloggers' Decorating Obsessions for 2013

Brass, grass cloth, and camouflage are just a few of the home decor obsessions that bloggers can't get enough of as we head into 2013.

Glazed Ceramic Lamps

"Lamps have become a fashion accessory for the home, the jewelry of a room," Beth Connolly of Chinoiserie Chic says. "I adore gourd-shaped lamps in rooms with chinoiserie elements. Designers seem to favor the solid colors, although blue and white Chinese designs add a classic element."

A Chinoiserie Christmas - Tartan & Chinoiserie

Scott Meacham Wood
This past weekend was the Scottish Walk here in Alexandria and it got me in a tartan mood. I started thinking about combining tartan and Chinoiserie - can it be done? Scott Meacham Wood uses a Chinese chest in this wonderful room above. Lindsay at The Pursuit of Style is thinking about trimming a tartan Christmas tree skirt in Greek key. Ralph Lauren's room has tartan and a stunning blue ginger jar. I also like a the zebra rug layered on top of the oriental rug in this room. A great idea to borrow.
